In Turkana County, Kenya, a powerful initiative is unlocking new opportunities for adolescent girls. The Learning Through Education and Access to Skills for Employment (LEAP) project, led by World University Service Canada (WUSC), is focused on providing life-changing education and skills training. Central to this effort is a strategic partnership with Snapplify, aimed at expanding access to high-quality digital learning content.
Girls in refugee communities like Kakuma in Turkana County face systemic barriers to education, including:
- Limited access to up-to-date learning resources
- A lack of digital tools and internet connectivity
- The need for safe learning environments that support both academic and personal development
The partnerships and solutions put in place are specifically designed to address these challenges by improving educational outcomes, digital literacy, and long-term empowerment.

Empowering Girls with New Rationalised CBC Content
Following the launch in July 2024, the partnership between WUSC and Snapplify has completed the second phase of digital content rollout, providing adolescent girls in the Kakuma refugee camp access to the new rationalized Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). Whether in the classroom or during after-school sessions, teachers can plan more effectively and learners can stay engaged with current, relevant content.
This seamless integration is crucial to the success of the CBC in Kenya and is already contributing to improved learning outcomes in underserved regions.
Key Features of the Solution:
- Access to a Vast Digital Library: 700 girls have access a wide range of CBC curriculum-aligned resources and supplementary content tailored to their learning needs.
- Safe Learning Spaces: Sessions are conducted in secure, supportive environments where girls are also taught essential life skills and digital literacy.
- Offline Functionality: Snapplify’s platform offers offline access, allowing girls to download materials and continue learning even without internet connectivity.
- Cross-Device Compatibility: The Snapplify Reader app works seamlessly across different devices and operating systems.
Collaborating with Local Publishing Partners
